Welcome to ALTA's 43rd annual conference, "In Between"! Due to the current health crisis, ALTA has shifted to a virtual conference this year. Our conference will take place on Crowdcast, with certain events available through Zoom. Please visit our conference FAQ to learn more.
We welcome everyone to our conference and are committed to making our programming and events accessible and to making arrangements that allow all attendees to participate in the conversation. Please view our Accessibility web page for more information, and contact Program Manager Kelsi Vanada with access needs.
|Registration Rate||Access to all conference programming and recordings||One translation workshop & two exclusive pitch sessions with translation publishers||Helps keep registration rates low for everyone|
With the aim of making participation more feasible, we’ve set our base registration at an at-cost price of $100. For those who are not in a position to pay the at-cost price, there is the option of a $50 rate. Registration for tickets at the $125 level closed on August 31. Workshops and pitch sessions have closed, but registration at the $200 price is open for those who are in a position to pay the usual in-person conference registration rate. Your generosity makes it possible for us to keep registration rates low for everyone.

Workshops & Pitch Sessions (CLOSED 8/31)
If you register at the $125 or $200 level, you'll be able to sign up for one online translation workshop and two pitch sessions.
These 90-minute workshops will be limited to small groups of 6-8 translators, and they are designed to help you develop your translation skills by providing feedback on a section of your work. These workshops will be led by award-winning translators including Susan Bernofsky, Daniel Hahn, Deborah Smith, Katrine Øgaard Jensen, Bill Johnston, and Katherine Hedeen. Once you’ve signed up for the workshop of your choice, you’ll share a brief text in your translation with your workshop leader and the other participants.
Pitch sessions are 5-minute meetings with editors of translation presses and journals, where you can pitch a book (for presses) or short translation (for journals) for consideration for publication. Participating presses and journals include And Other Stories, New Directions, The Common, Tilted Axis Press, Transit Books, Two Lines Press, Ugly Duckling Presse, Veliz Books, Words Without Borders, and World Editions.
Registration includes admission to the full conference, including live events during the conference weekend and all programming leading up to it. All presenters, including readers accepted to the Annual Alexis Levitin Bilingual Reading Series, must register for the conference. In the case of authors reading short excerpts along with the translator in a bilingual reading, registration for the author is waived. If authors would like to participate in other conference events, they will need to register. Authors presenting as part of an accepted session are required to register for the conference.
All conference registrations must be purchased online with a credit or debit card. We do not accept checks or cash. Please also note that registration is non-refundable.
Please direct any questions you might have to email@example.com. We are looking forward to coming together and celebrating your work this fall.
